The spirit of travel

We offer you here an exceptional circuit for discovering Bolivie over four weeks. A private expedition at your own pace to experience the immense diversity of this extraordinary country. After a gentle acclimatization in La Paz and on the Lake Titicaca during which encounters with local communities will play a central role, we head towards the multitude of attractions the country has to offer: the colonial towns with their timeless charm, the magnificent Sajama Park dominated by the imposing Nevado Sajama, the highest point in Bolivie, the dazzling splendor of the immense Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt desert, the multicolored lagoons of the Lipez region... Several challenging hikes will allow you to experience up close the wild majesty of the places you traverse. And to conclude this already colorful circuit, we will embark on a challenging and wild trek lasting a week in the Royal Cordillera, part of the Andes located in the Bolivian altiplano, northeast of La Paz and east of Lake Titicaca, whose highest peaks reach over 6,000 meters and remain to this day little explored and frequented. This high-altitude trek immerses the hiker in preserved Bolivian soul while revealing some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in the country.

Art, Hiking and Markets in La Paz

We begin this day with the discovery of the K'Illi K'Illi viewpoint which offers a magnificent view of La Paz and the Illimani mountain range.

We then head down to the southern area to meet a sculptor and watercolor artist from La Paz, Ramon Tito. He works primarily with stone that he finds in the surroundings of La Paz: clays from the Valley of Souls, basalt, marble, sandstone, alabaster, granite… According to the shape of the stone he finds, he creates works that carry within them Bolivian identity.

We then set off on a hike in the Pedregal Canyon (3600m alt.). The ascent is leisurely, in the midst of impressive fairy chimneys, up to a pass that opens onto El Valle Escondido (the hidden valley). We continue until we reach the village at the foot of the Devil's Molar.

Hiking time: 2 to 3 hours
Elevation gain: +330m/-495m

To finish this beautiful day, afternoon dedicated to discovering on foot the traditional markets and the historic center of the city of La Paz.

In the early afternoon, we start our hike up Dragon Dormido with a climb to the Tunupa cave. Then we continue on a slightly steeper path to the summit which reaches 4095m. Magnificent view over Santiago bay. A more challenging descent on the other side… truly a beautiful hike not to be missed !

Hiking time: 3 hours
Elevation gain: +230m/-230m

Back at the village we meet a weaver from the village who teaches us the technique of traditional weaving. It sometimes takes a month to weave an aguayo, a traditional Andean fabric.

We visit the 25 de Mayo Square, the Simon Bolivar Park, the Recoleta Convent, the ethnographic textile museum (ASUR) and the unmissable Casa de la Libertad (closed Sunday afternoon and Monday).

On the way to Potosi

Sucre → Potosí

3h160 km

Departure at 8am from the hotel to reach the imperial city of Potosí where we arrive late morning.

At 2pm, meeting with our guide at our hotel to discover the Casa de la Moneda, a museum that traces the history of the city through silver coins that were produced there during Spanish times.

A little anecdote: the mask of the main patio was sculpted in 1850 by the Frenchman Eugenio Martínez Mulón. For some, it represents Diego Hualpa, the native who, according to legend, discovered the vein of Cerro Rico. For others, it symbolizes Bacchus, the Greek god of wine and abundance. This is because of the bunches of grapes on his head.

Weather permitting, discovery of the city center.

Through the Valley of Rocks

Expedition by 4x4 vehicle. To begin, we visit the Train Cemetery located on the outskirts of the city. Most of the trains in this cemetery date back to the early twentieth century and were imported from England to transport ore to Chile. Crossing of San Cristobal, a village relocated following the arrival of a mining company. Discovery of the Valley of Rocks where erosion has created strange shapes several meters high. Some more notable than others, we can play at finding the resemblances! One of the rocks may perhaps have the shape of a world football cup or a camel.

The information below concerns travelers who are nationals of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland and Canada traveling to Bolivia for a tourist stay. Since entry rules may change, we recommend that you verify this information with the official authorities before your departure.

Passport

To enter Bolivia, your passport must be valid for a minimum of six months after your entry date into the country and must have at least one blank page for immigration stamps.
The document must be in good condition (no damaged, torn or altered pages).

Tourist stay without a visa

Nationals of the European Economic Area, Switzerland and Canada benefit from a visa exemption for tourist stays in Bolivia.

This exemption allows a stay of up to 90 days per year in Bolivian territory. This duration is calculated on a calendar year basis and generally cannot be exceeded without specific administrative procedures.

Authorities may also request:

  • an exit ticket from the territory (return or onward flight),

  • proof of sufficient financial resources for the duration of your stay.

Tourist card

Upon arrival in Bolivia, travelers may be asked to complete a tourist card or entry form issued by Bolivian immigration services, particularly when entering by land.

This document allows authorities to collect certain information necessary for entry into the territory:

  • passport information

  • purpose and duration of stay

  • address of first accommodation in Bolivia

It is advisable to keep this document throughout your stay, as it may be requested when leaving the territory.

Health and vaccinations

No vaccine is officially required to enter Bolivia from the EEA, Switzerland or Canada. However, vaccination against yellow fever is strongly recommended for travelers going to tropical lowland regions (Amazon, Beni and Santa Cruz departments).

It is also recommended to inquire about the risks associated with malaria in certain rural areas and to take appropriate precautions. The high altitude of certain Bolivian destinations (La Paz, Potosí, Uyuni) can cause altitude sickness (soroche): a medical consultation before departure is recommended.

Travel with children

Minors must hold their own valid passport covering the duration of the stay.

In certain European countries, when a minor travels without one of their parents, an authorization to leave the territory may be required according to the regulations of the country of residence. Bolivian authorities may also request documents proving the family relationship or parental authorization.

Other nationalities

Entry conditions may vary depending on nationality. Travelers concerned should inquire with the embassy or consulate of Bolivia in their country of residence.
