Looking for a dream trip for your honeymoon? Why not choose Bolivia? Located in South America and still untouched by mass tourism, this country captivates with its authenticity, culture, and enchanting landscapes.
Between the charm of La Paz and the sometimes surreal beauty of Andean landscapes, Bolivia is the perfect destination for newlyweds seeking an unforgettable journey.
In this article, we invite you to discover the itinerary of our Honeymoon in Bolivia circuit.
Visiting La Paz, the highest city in the world
Your honeymoon in Bolivia will begin in La Paz, the highest city in the world. Perched at over 3,600 meters of altitude and reaching up to 4,000 meters in the highlands, La Paz is a vibrant and authentic city. Situated in a vast bowl, it is surrounded by magnificent Andean mountains called the Altiplano.
To fully grasp the landscape surrounding the city, gain altitude by taking one of La Paz's cable cars. As you reach the popular neighborhood of El Alto, you'll enjoy an exceptional panorama of the city and the magnificent peaks that surround it, including Huayna Potosi (6,088 meters) and Illimani (6,462 meters).
To immerse yourself in the local atmosphere, head to La Paz's markets. A visit to the Witch's Market, the Mercado de las Brujas, is a must-see in the city. The ideal place to soak in traditional Aymara culture. The stalls, run by cholitas, are filled with fetishes, traditional remedies, plants with magical properties, and superstitious objects. You'll also discover the market's curiosity: astonishing mummified llama fetuses, believed to bring blessing and health to the entire family.
Dominated by an immense cathedral, Plaza Murillo is the ideal place to discover superb monuments like the Presidential Palace and the National Congress. Plaza San Francisco, meanwhile, is the heart of the city, the perfect place to observe local life.
Founded by Spanish conquistadors in 1548, the city of La Paz possesses a very present colonial architectural heritage. Calle Jaén is a perfect example, with its superb buildings featuring colorful facades lined with wrought-iron balconies. In this charming colonial street, culture enthusiasts can visit several museums such as the Gold Museum or the Museo Costumbrista Juan de Vargas, which houses art objects, photographs, and dolls dressed in traditional costumes.
The unusual landscapes of the Valley of the Moon
A land of contrasts, Bolivia is made up of snow-capped mountains, tropical forests, and unusual landscapes that sometimes seem to transport us to another planet. The Valley of the Moon is one of those somewhat surreal places, and its visit will certainly guarantee wonderful memories.
Located a few kilometers from La Paz, discover an incredible lunar landscape, composed of a labyrinth of gorges and rocky peaks. The Valley of the Moon is home to thousands of fairy chimneys, surprising geological formations sculpted by erosion.
There are two marked hiking trails that allow you to move through this exceptional setting, with a magnificent panorama of the valley at the end of the route.
Easily accessible from La Paz, it's a great day-trip idea and an essential place to visit during your honeymoon in Bolivia.
Immortalizing your honeymoon at the Salar de Uyuni
The Salar de Uyuni is Bolivia's most sought-after destination. Located at 3,658 meters on high plateaus in the southwest of the country, this immense salt desert, which extends over nearly 11,000 km², is the largest in the world. The Salar de Uyuni, formed approximately 10,000 years ago, is the result of the progressive drying of the Lago Minchin, a prehistoric lake.
You'll discover an incredible place of great beauty and a landscape that takes on different decors depending on the season, alternately offering beautiful mirror effects when flooded and fine perspectives when completely dry. Accompanied by a professional photographer, you'll be able to immortalize your honeymoon in this white paradise, a unique and magical setting for a memorable photo shoot!
During your excursion to the Salar de Uyuni, don't miss an excursion to Incahuasi Island, or Casa del Inca, located in the middle of the salt desert. The visit to the Salar will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your trip to Bolivia.

Frequently asked questions
The best time for a honeymoon in Bolivia is the dry season, from May to October. The sky is clear, temperatures pleasant, and roads passable. To visit the Salar de Uyuni with a spectacular mirror effect, prefer the end of the rainy season (January-March), when a thin layer of water covers the salt desert.
A stay of 10 to 14 days is ideal to enjoy the main highlights of a honeymoon in Bolivia: 2-3 days in La Paz, one day at the Valley of the Moon, then 3 days at the Salar de Uyuni. This duration also allows for gradual acclimatization to the altitude.
Bolivia is visited at high altitude (La Paz is at over 3,600 m). To avoid soroche, take time to acclimatize during the first few days, stay well hydrated, avoid alcohol and heavy meals upon arrival. Your doctor can also prescribe a preventive treatment based on acetazolamide.
French citizens do not need a visa to enter Bolivia for a tourist stay of up to 90 days. You simply need a valid passport. However, be sure to check entry conditions with the Bolivian embassy before departure, as they may change.
At the Salar de Uyuni, don't miss: sunrise or sunset over the immense salt desert, a photo session with a professional photographer for memorable images, a visit to Incahuasi Island (Casa del Inca) covered with giant cacti in the middle of the salar, and exploring the colorful lagoons on the edges of the Eduardo Avaroa park.
